Organizaciones sociales, profesionales u honoríficas, compuestas por varones y mujeres, respectivamente. La mayoría de estas organizaciones utilizan como denominación combinaciones de letras del alfabeto griego. Varias organizaciones sociales de los colleges (colegios universitarios) y universidades de EE.UU. son residenciales y requieren de nuevos miembros ("compromisos) para tomar parte en los ritos de iniciación. Algunas sociedades honoríficas, como Phi Beta Kappa, también son conocidas como fraternidades; sus miembros provienen del estudiantado de pregrado. See also sociedad secreta.
